The College Hawks were back in action on July 15th with a chance to move closer to clinching the regular season title of the Tristate Collegiate League.

College Hawks 4 versus Ohio Baseball Club 1 @ Mercy Field

The visitors from Cleveland arrived for a 6pm contest at Mercy Field with the game time temperatures approaching 100 degrees on the playing surface. In the 2nd inning the home team took a 1-0 lead on a two out base hit by Justin Curry scoring Zack Michael. The visitors would tie the game at 1 in the top of the 5th inning. The score remained tied until the bottom of the 7th when the host team scored 3 runs after two were out. John Joseph brought home the lead run with a solid line drive to left. After a passed ball allowed JJ to take second, Sam Fischer laced a double over the left fielders head for a 3-1 lead. Fischer would score later in the inning to make the final score of 4-1. Both teams had 8 hits and 1 error in a very well-played game. The starter for the Hawks was Alex Ricica (5 inning 3H 1 R), Chris Miller (2inn 1H 0R), Alex Williams (1 in 3H 0R) and Matt Olsavsky (1 inn 1 H 0 R) in a combined effort. 19U Hawks Continue Their Journey

The 19U version of the Toledo Hawks continued their journey through the 2013 baseball season by splitting 4 games in Grand Rapids, Michigan on June 26-28. Losing the first game to the Oakland Reds the Hawks bounced back in the nightcap with an 8-5 victory over the Detroit Warriors. A three run homer by Tad Sobieszczanski put the club ahead for good in the 4th inning and the pitching held on for the win.

The next two games are beyond explanation. Both games ended in a tie. The tournament rules stipulated a one hour fifty minute time limit and both games exceeded that. In the first games the Hawks scored one run in the fifth to tie the game and had bases loaded but did not score another run. In the sixth, the last inning, once again we had a chance to win it but couldn't get the job done. Ryan Czajka started and pitched well with relief from Rob Bekier. Leading the hitting was Devin Burns with 2 hits and 2 runs batted in.
