Team Adds Tri-State Title to Accomplishments

Toledo Hawks "Gold" made a makeup trip on Saturday, July 30 to Ravenna, Ohio.  With a sweep in this doubleheader - two games being replayed after a cancelled double-dip from the previous weekend - the team could lay claim to the top spot in the Tri-State Collegiate Baseball League for the 2011 season.  With Eric Croak (Toledo/Toledo) presenting a home run-derby level performance in game one, and Mattie DeDoes (Oberlin/Ann Arbor, MI) providing the offensive and the pitching theatrics in game two, the Gold Hawks flew over the Ravenna Arsenal on their way to 14-1 and 9-5 victories, and wrapped their talons around this season's Tri-State crown.  The Gold Hawks now find themselves in the enviable position of accepting one of two bids they earned to the 2011 NABF World Series, having clinched the title in the Toledo Amateur League as well.

Gold Hawks Take Two In Final Road Trip

After Saturday rains cancelled two games across Ohio in Ravenna, the Toledo Gold Hawks made the trip Sunday to Strongsville to play a doubleheader against Tri-State rival Ohio Northern.  Though the bats started slowly, the pitching held up and the rain held off - and the Hawks held up their side of the bargain for those fans that made the trip.  The Hawks won the opening contest 3-1, and then held off the Northerners late in the second game to prevail by a 7-5 margin.

RyanFirst baseman Ryan Hotmer has always been known for his bat, a bat packed with more punch than an Olympic boxer.

Hotmer is now seeking a way to pack his punch with wood bats while playing for the summer collegiate Toledo Black Hawks in the Toledo Amateur Baseball Federation.

A 2010 Lake graduate, Hotmer smashed a team record 15 home runs during his three-year varsity career and finished his senior season with seven home runs and was a dominating presence on the mound, recording a 6-3 record with a 1.74 ERA in 52.1 innings pitched for the Flyers.

drewClay graduate Drew Kuns had a National Amateur Baseball Federation College World Series to remember in 2010.

A medical redshirt at Bowling Green State University, Kuns caught fire more readily than a gas grill on the Fourth of July, hitting an impressive .500 for the tournament while driving in 10 runs and earning tournament MVP honors for the champion Ohio Monarchs Gold of the Tri-State Collegiate League and Toledo Amateur Baseball Federation.
