The Monarchs Gold saved their best, all around performance for last. After relying heavily on their offense to carry them thus far in the tournament, Gold added the pitching and defense to their streaking offense to eliminate the Alton Indians 13-5 in the World Series championship game, their second of the last three.
With 10 players on the Monarchs championship team two years ago, Gold showed their poise and experience straight from the start. In the bottom of the first the Monarchs drew four walks in the inning. Adam Yunker did his part on the base paths too, not only stealing second and third, but becoming a serious distraction for the pitcher. Ricky Lizcano got the only RBI in the inning on a bases loaded walk. The other two runs scored on wild pitches to strike a 3-0 early lead.

Monarchs Gold took Pool A winners, Kingsbridge Knights’ best shots in their Quarterfinal bout Saturday morning. The Monarchs continued their recent scoring binge early and never looked back outslugging the Knights 17-7 and advancing to the Semi-Finals on Sunday.
The Knight’s pitcher was all over the place and the Monarch batters made him pay. Corey Lehman got it started with a leadoff walk and was moved over on Adam Yunker’s sac bunt. Drew Kuns was hit, and Casey Winckowski brought home the first run of the morning with a first pitch single to score Lehman. Ricky Lizcano belted a two run double in the inning as well to give the Monarchs the early 3-0 lead. In the second, Adam Yunker brought home Eric Yunker on an RBI triple to add to the lead.

After splitting their first two games, the Monarchs Gold went into their last game of pool play Friday afternoon against the Illinois Jayhawks one win away from advancing to bracket play on Saturday. It wouldn’t come easy, but the Monarchs survive and advanced on a 12-10 victory.
Things got off to a rough start for the Monarchs. Starting pitcher, Ryan Stults, gave up a run in the second and three runs in the third before leaving the game. Stults couldn’t quite find the strike zone issuing four free passes in his two and two thirds innings. Tim Corby relieved him with two outs in the third, got the third out, but also allowed an inherited runner to score, which was charged to Stults as well.
