Oregon, OH - Sunday, July 12th was another sunny day at the ballpark. This time the Monarchs Blue took on the Youngstown Metros for two games.
Cody Fisher was the starting pitcher for game one. Fisher pitched two and two-thirds innings, giving up 3 runs, walking one and striking out six, 4 of which started the game. Corey Cannon came on to finish out the third and pitched through 3 batters in the 6th inning. Cannon allowed two runs, walked one and struck out two. Ethan Salsbury completed the 6th and finished up the game. Salsbury gave up two runs, walked one and struck out one.
Offensivly, Chris Pfund drew a walk to start the 5th inning, then stole second before advancing to third on a ground out. Pfund was then brought home by a double from Alex Timofeev for the first run for the Blue. In the 7th inning, Chad Meyer led off with a walk and then stole second. Nick Broyles singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Pfund then drew a walk before Casey Kahsen hit a double, which cleared the bases. Although they hit well at the end of the game, it was just not enough as the Metros came out on top 7-4.
In game two the Metros got off to a quick start by scoring two runs in the first off of the starting pitcher who went 3 innings, giving up 3 runs, walking two and striking out four. Nicholas Bratt came out to start the 4th inning and pitched through the 5th. Bratt allowed no runs while walking one and striking out one. Broyles came on to pitch the last two innings and allowed only one more run to cross the plate for the Metros. He walked none and struck out one.
The Blue team cut the lead to one by scoring two runs in the 4th inning. Broyles led off the inning and was hit by a pitch, he later stole second. Kahsen singled and advanced to second on the steal of third by Broyles. Both runners were brought home on a single. One more run was added in the 7th inning for a final score of Metros 4 - Monarchs Blue 3.
