The Monarchs Blue came in to the second game of their double header Friday against the Dix Hill Dodgers with still a chance to advance to bracket play. With a win and favorable outcome in another game, Blue could advance. Despite their efforts in the game, they fell just short yet again, to lose 6-3.
Blue got on the board first in the contest with two in the bottom of the second. Paul Zalar had an RBI double to score Austin Ritson, and Michael Dushane knocked a sac fly to score Nasri Hajjar. Corey Cannon took the mound for the Monarchs Blue. He got through the first two innings unscathed, but ran into a little trouble in the top of the third giving up two runs and tying it at two apiece. Cannon also gave up a solo homer in the top of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Blue clawed back on Ritson’s sac fly to score Alex Timofeev. Michael Fahle came up next with two on and belted a ball to deep straight away center that fell at the back of the warning track and just feet away from being a three-run homerun and giving the Monarchs the lead. Nevertheless the Monarchs tied it up 3-3 going into the sixth.
Cannon worked through six and finished with a line of 6 IP, 3 R, 3 ER, with 5 K’s. Ritson took over in the seventh and battled back in forth with the Dodgers, posting zeros through eight. In the top of the ninth, Blue’s defense made a couple mistakes and that’s all it took for the Dodger’s to plate three.
Blue got one on in the bottom half, but wasn’t able to mount another comeback, thus ending their run in the World Series. Congratulations to the Monarchs Blue team on a great season and good luck to all of the players in their school ball this upcoming season!
