The 2013 rendition of the College Toledo Hawks took the field on Saturday June 1, 2013. The Hawks welcomed the Canton Terriers for a doubleheader and wasted little time jumping out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning. After Canton cut the lead to 3-2 in the top of the third, the home team responded with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning for a 5-2 lead. The pitching of the Hawks then took over and preserved the lead for a final of 6-2. The Hawks totaled 9 hits in the game led by Hunter Smith (Perrysburg / Michigan State), who was 3 for 3 with a triple and 3 runs scored and 2 RBI. The starting pitcher for the game was Brent Greenwood (Whitmer / Adrian College) who went 3 innings allowing 1 earned run. Brent was followed by Rylie Robinson (Clinton Mi. / Adrian College) and Matt Olsavsky (Anthony Wayne / Lourdes) both of whom allowed no runs.


  The second game was scoreless until the top of the third inning when the visitors broke through for an unearned run to take a 1-0 lead. That lead was short lived as the home team struck for 4 runs in the bottom of the third. After the visitors cut the lead later in the game to 5-4 the Hawks generated an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth for a 6-4 lead. That would be the final. The pitching staff for the second game consisted of Travis Mielcarek (Central Catholic / Sienna Heights) , Alex Ricica ( Whitmer / Purdue ) and Mason Mayberry ( Bowling Green HS / University of Findlay) who allowed no earned runs. The offense was led by Zach Ryder (Northview / Adrian College) 2/2 with 2 runs scored 1RBI, John Joseph III (Northview / Adrian College) 2/3 1RS and 1 RBI, and Cory Brown (Port Clinton HS / Mount Vernon College 2/3 with 2 doubles and 1 RS.

                On Sunday, the Cleveland Select team visited Mercy Field for the second DH of the weekend. The Hawks jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings and never looked back on the way to an 8-3 win. The offensive leaders were Zack Michael (Olentangy Liberty/ University of Toledo) 2/3 with an inside the park home run 4RBI and 2RS, Zach Ryder 2/3 1RS and 1RBI, Colin Parcher (Napoleon HS / Ohio Dominican University) 3/3 1RS 1 2BTodd Vandercook, (Southview / Palm Beach State) 2/2 with 2RS and a 2B, Dylan Clifton – Lorton (Waite / Ohio State) 2/3. The pitchers for game 1 were John Fortunato (St. Francis / Case Western) 2 earned runs, Jeff Davis (St. Francis / Adrian College) 1 earned run and Alex Williams (Perrysburg HS / University of Findlay) no earned runs.

                The visitors jumped out to a 1-0 lead after the first half of the first inning on a sacrifice fly and then the home team came to the plate and exploded for 6 runs on the way to a 12-1 win. The offense was led by several players as each position player collected at least 1 hit.

                Michael Calloway (Detroit Cass Tech / Lourdes University) 1 for 3 with a HR, 2RBI and 2 RS

                Collin Parcher – 2 for 4 with a 2 triples and 2 RBI and 2 RS

                Joe Gentile (Defiance HS / Hillsdale College) 2 for 2 with a triple and 3 RS

                Marty Ramirez (Start HS / Lourdes University) 3 for 4 with 3 RBI

On the mound was Jake Chipka (Anthony Wayne HS / Hope College) 3 innings , 1 ER, Cory Fox ( Vermillion HS / Adrian College) 3 innings, 0 earned runs and Alex Williams , 1 inning pitched 0 earned runs.

                The Hawks will have two games this week in the Toledo League at Bowman before retuning back to Mercy Field next weekend for doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday.
